Dataspeed agrees drive-by-wire distribution deal
October 29, 2020 – Autonomous vehicle by-wire control systems supplier Dataspeed has signed UK e-mobility business Hypermotive to be an approved installation and distribution partner for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The company’s drive-by-wire kit is a complete hardware and software system that it says allows seamless electronic control of a vehicle’s brake, throttle, steering and shifting to enable testing for autonomous vehicle applications. Under the agreement, Hypermotive is authorized to sell, support and install this Dataspeed system.

The installations can be performed at one of Hypermotive’s UK vehicle workshops, or by a mobile team onsite.

Dataspeed says the partnership allows the two companies to work more closely on future projects and recognizes the experience their Michigan-based engineering team has in utilizing Velodyne LiDAR.

VSI Labs Launches New Automated Drive Series to Demonstrate ADAS Technology
July 5, 2020 – Last August, VSI Labs completed a 2,000-mile journey from their Minneapolis, Minnesota home to Santa Clara, California, for the Drive World conference. The test vehicle, a 2018 Ford Fusion with a Dataspeed by-wire control system, was subjected to a multitude of roads, driving situations, and environments, including the hot desert sun. The VSI Labs team would later remark at the 2020 Electronic Imaging Symposium that keeping sand away from the Linux-based computer in the trunk was a challenge.

Dataspeed Announces Intelligent Power Distribution System

Autonomous shuttles will transport people from airport to Detroit Auto Show this year
February 11, 2020 – Visitors to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this June be able to get downtown in a unique fashion according to event organizers. A pair of autonomous vehicle companies will operate shuttles during the press preview and industry preview days that will take passengers to and from Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus and the TCF Center in downtown Detroit.

Dataspeed goes downtown with US $1.7m grant
January 20, 2020 – Autonomous vehicle engineering provider Dataspeed has received a US $1.77m grant to develop shuttle services for attendees of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) media days. Dataspeed was awarded the grant in partnership with AM General, Comet Mobility, Easterseals and Michigan State University from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The grant was awarded to winners of the NAIAS 2020 Michigan Mobility Challenge dedicated to developing AVs to shuttle NAIAS attendees.

January 14, 2020 – In years past, this week of January is reserved for reporting on the big North American International Auto Show held in Detroit. That is not happening this year because after much consideration the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, the show’s promoter, has rescheduled the event to June. Not only will that make for a literal warmer welcome to the five thousand or so journalists that cover the NAIAS, it allows the organizers to expand the event beyond the walls of the TCF Center (formerly known as Cobo Hall), allowing attendees to enjoy more than just displays presented inside.

Detroit auto show will open with street festival in June
January 13, 2020 – Dataspeed and FEV will provide shuttles along two routes from Detroit Metro Airport directly to downtown Detroit. One route will transport passengers along I-94 to M-1, dropping riders in downtown Detroit on Warren Ave., where they can access hotels and other NAIAS activities. The second route will run from I-94 to US-12, providing riders a direct service to the TCF Center for the NAIAS 2020 activities. The free shuttles will run Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 11 during press and industry preview days.
