The Dataspeed Magnetic Lidar Mount is the quickest way to mount your lidar while maintaining a professional look on your research and development vehicle. The three pivoting magnetic discs allow for mounting on slightly curved surfaces and are covered in rubber for surface protection. The unique, weatherproof mounting structure allows for an unobstructed 360-degree view.
Shroud Options Include: Without Shroud, White Shroud, & Custom color.
Both off-the-shelf and custom bumper bars and roof racks are available for quick lidar, RADAR, GPS antenna, ultrasonic, and camera mounting. Bumper bars can be modified to smoothly wrap around the vehicle and can be color-matched and powder coated. Tube frame roof racks with custom mounting brackets allow for easy adjustment and addition/removal of sensors.
Dataspeed offers top-of-the-line power integrations to meet your unique autonomous research and development project needs. Whether conducting research on the road or in the lab, our robust products offer market-leading flexibility, dedicated support, and utmost safety.
The iPDS enables computer control of 12 automotive independent DC relay channels with programmable startup and shutdown sequences, two long-life cooling fans, as well as internal temperature sensors for channel temperature monitoring. It includes industry-standard CAN, Ethernet and USB communication interfaces making it ideal for not only autonomous vehicle research but for any automotive electronics testing.
The Shore Power System allows all equipment that is being powered from Dataspeed’s iPDS to operate in a lab or garage setting. This solution allows the equipment in the vehicle to stay powered without having the engine running or draining the vehicle battery. Instead of power routing to the iPDS from the vehicle’s alternator, an inverter/charger is used to convert AC power from a wall outlet to 12V DC power for the iPDS.
Power systems can be designed and engineered to meet specific output requirements, ensuring the optimal functioning of both primary and auxiliary systems in the vehicle. These systems can be scaled up or down based on energy consumption, load demands, and usage scenarios, from electric vehicles to off-road UTV. A custom approach guarantees maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness while addressing the unique needs of each application.
A secondary battery is sometimes necessary to ensure a smooth, uninterrupted power transition from the vehicle’s primary power source to shore power. This backup battery serves as a bridge, providing temporary power during the switchover process, which is critical for maintaining system stability. Without a secondary battery, vehicles might experience power dips or interruptions, potentially damaging sensitive electronics or disrupting essential functions.
The secondary battery is especially beneficial during the gap between turning off the vehicle and connecting to shore power. It allows for seamless operation during these intervals, preventing loss of power to critical systems like communication devices, sensors, or HVAC units. This is particularly useful in scenarios where shore power is not immediately available, or there’s a delay in establishing a stable connection. Additionally, it helps maintain system integrity and ensures the vehicle’s core systems remain operational until external power is restored.
The Emergency Stop button included in the Dataspeed By-Wire Kit immediately disables all autonomous inputs to the vehicle and reverts to manual driving. Overrides such as pressing the gas pedal, applying the brakes or grabbing the steering wheel are preferred methods to revert to manual control because of their seamless transitions. However, in the rare event that one of these methods fail, an E-stop button can remove power and force all modules back to manual control. A separate E-stop button that applies brakes is useful when there is an untrained driver or no occupant in the vehicle, but Dataspeed does not recommend testing a vehicle without a safety driver.
